Honors
TOP 2 CHOICES-
1. U.S. History Textbook: Find at least four people from the class who are interested in reading the same U.S. History Textbook as you are. The top recommendation here is History Alive. You definitely want to get your textbook approved by Simon before you start. If you choose this option, your honors team will meet once a week on Tuesdays during lunch) to discuss what you read and eventually to discuss how to present a chunk of U.S. History to the whole team in a 6 to 8 minute play that tells the whole story of the Revolutionary War, the Constitution, the Civil War, Reconstruction and Progressive Era of U.S. History in an entertaining and hopefully unforgettable way. (During second semester, this team will get into WWI, WWII, the Red Scare, Vietnam, etc.).
Why I Chose This Option- History has always been one of my favorite subjects, and I am really interested about learning more about US history in greater detail. In 8th grade, my class and I learned what I believe to be the basics of US History, but I would really love to learn about each event in detail and know how they specifically shaped our country to what it is today.
2. SAT Prep: Find at least four people from the class who are interested in SAT Preparation. Your text for this honors option will be the big blue official SAT Book. If you choose this option, your honors team will meet once a week (on Thursdays during lunch) to take discuss challenging SAT problems from practice tests you took the weekend prior. (Expect 90 minutes of SAT practice every weekend) and to discuss SAT prep strategies you find on line. Eventually, your team will discuss how to present what you learned to the whole team in a 6 to 8 minute play that prepares your classmates for the SATs in an entertaining, informative and hopefully unforgettable way.
Why I Chose This Option- I think it is really important that I learn as much that is going to be on the SAT as possible just so that I can go in and take the test confidently. This test will play a major factor as to what university i go to, and how the rest of my career plays out, and I want to be as prepared as possible to get a good score and get into the university I wish.
