PUT A SPOTLIGHT ON GLOBAL ISSUES
My advertisement is a picture of a Victoria’s secret model with a headline that says “One gift, one thousand fantasies; One gift, one thousand underpaid child laborers in West Africa.” I chose this because allegations have already been made regarding child labor used to in some of the cotton products made by Victoria’s Secret. Just last year, a story about the life of a thirteen year old girl working at a cotton farm in Burkina Faso, West Africa was described in a new report that aired in Ohio, which is where the Victoria’s Secret Headquarters are located. She, as well as many other children, was beaten by farmers in charge of producing organic cotton used in some of the lingerie produced by Victoria’s Secret. This is yet another example of a very powerful company that is taking advantage of children in third world countries and treating them inhumanely to produce their products. These children are being overworked, deprived of water while working in the fields, paid less than the legal minimum wage requirement, and work in unsafe working environments due to weather, pesticides, and dangerous machinery.
