REFLECTION 1
This being the first reflection of the year, we had to write about what we had learned that week using examples of what we have learned and evidence to demonstrate the connections we made between Biology and Humanities or our team project. We also had to think about two questions that we have about our reading, "Columbine" the novel by Dave Cullen, through the eyes of a Biologist. Below is my reflection.

Week 1 Reflection of Learning
It has only been three weeks of school, but I feel that we have made immense progress both in our team project and in our normal classes. In humanities, we are learning a lot about the Columbine School Shooting that happened in Colorado in 1999. We have been going into great detail about the event and the incidents leading up to that. We critically analyze and question the killer’s motives, their families and community’s role in the event, how the stereotype of teenagers affected people’s perspective on the incident and how it has changed because of it, and a lot more. Throughout our class discussions, we are learning how to be able to empathize with other people’s opinions while still challenging their ideas in a way that provokes other to inquire our thinking. These debate- like discussions in class push us to get out of our comfort zone and offer others a chance to understand our perspective on the topics we talk about. I have personally learned a lot about stepping out of my comfort zone though these debates, mostly because I was so used to debating with my classmates from last year and I felt that debating with an entirely different class would be a bit intimidating. However, I now see that because this was an entirely different class, an entirely different range of opinions and character traits that are very interesting. The same goes for the class discussions that we have in Biology when we hear the podcasts. I think that it is very interesting how everyone has very differing opinions that can build off of or contradict your own. In this class in specific, we are starting to learn about what specific parts of the brain play each major role and how the all connect with each other to carry out the basic tasks that the brain is responsible for. I am really looking forward to going more into depth about each section of the brain, and am really interested in learning how all of these brain functions connect to the emotions and thoughts that go through your brain every day. Being more specific, I am really looking forward to learning how the brain works when things such as thought of suicide, thoughts of death or killing, or even thoughts of desire come about. In general, I am really enthusiastic about what we will be learning this year, and I know for certain that if we keep up at the ace that we are at right now, we will learn so much more.
