PINHOLE CAMERA
Theme of Picture
It took us a while to figure out what the theme of our picture would be, and it took us a while to decide. In the end, we decided that we had to either take a picture of something that symbolizes the positive or negative aspect of our generation. My partner and I chose to take a picture of something that depicted the negative side f the girls in our generation, specifically about their morals and how they have changed over the years. Our actual picture was of a voodoo doll that my partner and I made out of yarn. The doll itself had needles that said stereotypical words used to describe the girls of our generation on them sticking into the doll. Then all we did was put the doll in a standing position and take a picture of it. However, our picture should have been a negative because we chose to take a picture of a negative side of our generation, but we found that it looked much clearer as a positive.
Being my first Festival Del Sol Exhibition here at High Tech High Chula Vista, I can certainly say that it was like nothing I had ever experienced. Throughout the whole process, my partner and I were stressed, over-whelmed, but very excited. My partner and I had to endure many hours of hard work to finish our project, but it was all worth it in the end. The highlight of this whole experience would probably have been being able t actually get a good shot/picture of the doll we made because it took us a very long time to find the correct exposure time. When we finally did, we were very relieved because it reassured us that our project would be finished by Festival. Like I mentioned before, we had the most trouble finding the right exposure time that would take the picture clearly. i think it was hard because our camera was built as more of a test camera to see how long the exposure time would be for the rest of the cameras that our classmates made. By the time we were done with the project, I think about ten other teams used our camera as well as us; so our camera was destroyed by the end of the project. I loved learning about this project is how the cameras can take a picture through a small hole only needing light and photo paper. It was so interesting how even the slightest trace of light could either make or break a picture by over-exposing or under-exposing it. It was also really cool to see our camera "in action" and be able to develop our own pictures in the dark room. Although this was a very fun project that i would love to do again, I would like it if in future Exhibition projects we could do something hat has to do with engineering or electricity that we make from scratch. In my opinion, our project turned out to be a great success. A lot of people came to us and told us that we did a very good job, not only with our picture, but with our "Physics of a Pinhole camera" poster that we displayed as well. At first I didn't know if I would enjoy this project because it seemed like we would have to be doing a lot of work, But in the end, I had a lot of fun learning about Pinhole Cameras and feel so privileged to have been a part of such a successful project.
