PROJECTS
Piece of Art Project
Description: For this project, we studied six violent revolutions and six nonviolent revolutions throughout history using primary and secondary sources. We also read Animal Farm by George Orwell, which is a critique of the Russian Revolution. In math, we studied geometric shapes and learned how to describe them qualitatively and quantitatively. We also explored how math (geometry) is used to create designs in art. As a final product, we created lanterns with panels about nonviolence using geometric shapes. We also created lessons on nonviolence and geometry to present to elementary students and did artwork with the students.
Put a Spotlight on Global Issues
Description: For this project we learned about global issues in the world around us. Specifically, we examined the role that we each play in this increasingly interconnected world. We investigated the origins of products we use in our daily lives and the impact that our “stuff” has on people and the environment. Further, we explored how change could happen in the world today. After we learned about globalization, we connected the global issues that exist in the world today to history. As a final product, we wrote letters to corporations encouraging them to have fair labor practices and created mock advertisements to show the truth behind the labels.
Put a Spotlight on Global Issues Documentary
Description: For this project, we learned about global issues that are affecting our world today and picked an issue to bring awareness to. We first created non-profit organizations that focused on a global issue and created documentaries with messages about our global issue that were featured in an exhibition. We also
created products such to sell in order to raise money for our global issue.
