SONNET
This was the first Sonnet I had ever written, so the whole concept of Iambic Pentameter was still very new to me. However, it turned out to be very simple and actually made a very big impact on what could have been any other poem. Our assignment was to write an unconditional love Sonnet using unconventional similes and metaphors to explain something that we loved. I chose to write about something very relatable to every teenage girl; a boy.

Sonnet 1
Jewels are brighter and bigger than his eyes;
The glares he gives make him appear so dull;
Through those small pinholes my feelings he pries;
Passion fall from them like treats from a skull;
Rusty old wires grow on top of his head;
Below the wires is a trace of a smile;
But even that smile appears to be dead;
Not much beauty do these features compile;
If life is a joke, then he’s the punch line;
If love’s a test, then he didn’t study;
For I’m afraid that his love skills don’t shine;
In fact, I think that they are quite cruddy;
There’s nothing about him that is perfect;
On my love for him, that has no effect.

I really like writing this poem because it gave me a chance to explore the other types of poetry that there are. For example, I had never compared the hair of the person I like to wires. I also learned of new ways to brainstorm and come up with lines to my poem through a process of just jotting down ideas and turning them into actual lines that i can use in a poem.
