Washington Irving project
I learned a lot while doing this project. I was one of the head set disigners in charge of designing, painting, and putting together the set and This project was one of my favorite experiences of the year. Through all of the chaos, disorder, and stress, we still came up with a great play with an amazing set! The following paragraph is the project reflection paper that I typed up regarding my feelings about the project.
Washington Irving Project Reflection
A Habit of the Heart and mind that I noticed I used throughout the project was refinement. I believe I used this habit when Israel and I would always go back to every tarp and make sure that it was as neat as possible or that it looked the way it should look. We were always looking for ideas or tips that would help us make the backdrops turn out as good as they can be. We also had to work around some obstacles such as making the doorways where the devil would have to walk through or making sure that we had enough paint and mixing colors together to make another color if not.
A memory that I will take away from this experience is how we were always out of paint. Israel and i would always freak out when we ran out of paint. We would end up having to mix paint together to make any colors that we needed. I remember how much of a hassle it was to find the perfect shade of brown by mixing yellows and greys together. I also remember how we had to use our amazing ninja / gymnast skills to paint the centers of all the tarps without stepping on or ripping the tarps.
What I learned about myself throughout the entire process of helping put together this play was that I work very well under pressure. I found that when I had to finish a tarp in one hour or have to make an axe in half an hour I really pushed myself and strove to finish. I worked efficiently and quickly when under pressure which is something that I never would have thought I would do. I also learned that my when my team comes together and every person is on task and willing to do their part to finish what needs to be done, we can do just about anything. Every person has their strengths and weaknesses, and as long as we utilize every one’s strengths, the job will be done.
I believe what went well during the project was that the stage managers where always trying their best to keep everyone on task. they tried to make sure that everyone was where they were supposed to be. They also helped out a lot wherever they could which was very good because, I do not know about the other groups, but the set artists needed as much help as they could get to finish painting the tarps.
One of the things that did not go so well included how we were constantly running gout of brown paint. We can avoid this next time by trying not to put too much paint in the same spot because the only thing that that does is waste paint. Another thing that went wrong was that the devil’s costume or suit was not as good as it could have been if they had made the design of it more simple; the head was constantly falling apart and we were running out of materials that could be used to fix it.
In the end, the play turned out very well; everyone that saw it said it was great. The backdrops, costumes, and lights looked very good and really brought the play together. i think everyone enjoyed this experience and it really brought out team even closer because now we have seen each other at our best, worst, and most stressed.

I think I learned a lot about myself and my classmates while working on this project because it was the first project that the whole class had the oppertunity to do together and I believe that we all got to see our classmates' strengths and weaknesses. I grew academically from working on this project in the way that I learned that when working on projects with certain people, I have to act in different ways with each specific person because all of my classmates, like I said before, have their own specific strengths and weaknesses,so I have to learn utilize their strengths and work around their weaknesses. The same goes for myself; i may be very organized and help people calm down, but when it comes to drawing, I may not be the best person for the job. I also grew socially in the way that i got to spend more time with my classmates and really get to know them; we all saw eachother at our bests and our worsts, so we understand each other and do not judge or critisize each other.
